Life Without
Barriers...LWB have a unique infrastructure having
50 sites and approaching 500 extensions with a heavy
concentration of Apple Mac equipment. LWB's call servers
are located in a data centre and sites have either IP

A Totally Open Business Telephone Solution maximiser has been developed to be the most “Open” business telephone system available today. It can be completely configured from any standard Web Browser – including Apple’s Safari, Mozilla and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer for Mac – whilst voicemail can be forwarded as an attachment to any SMTP compliant email system – including Apple Mail. PCS 50 and PCS Operators Console for OS X extend this Open System support for the Apple Mac community, whilst the range of “SpliceApps” provide true value in the areas of Call Management, Call Recording & Call Centres. This approach is directly in-line with SpliceCom’ strategy of providing maximiser’s advanced benefits to all users in a consistent and identical manner, totally independent of LAN infrastructure, telephone type, computer platform, service delivery, location or company size. w

Traditional
Computer
Telephony
Integration
(CTI)
through
AppleScript
| PCS 50/60 for Mac OSX also supports conventional CTI through the use of AppleScript. This allows automatic dialling of telephone numbers from the OS X Address Book, applications like the ever-popular FileMaker Pro, Entourage – or any other application that supports AppleScript. Linking to the relevant records within 3rd party applications for incoming calls is also handled in the same manner.

Analogue
Phone
Partner
| As a Phone Partner PCS 50 or 60 can be used in conjunction with SpliceCom’s PCS 520, PCS 10 or PCS 505 System Phones or even an existing analogue phone. In this role the telephone can be used to make and receive calls, totally independent of the Apple Mac, as normal. However, access to Caller Display with alpha tagging, System Directories (External Contacts, Users & Departments), Busy Lamp Field/Direct Station Select, Message Mailboxes, Call Conferencing, Call Recording and Key System Emulation features, etc. are all controlled via the PCS 50/60 for OS X application.

Mobile,
Remote
or Home
Working
| PCS 50 or 60 is a key component of SpliceCom’s Extension Anywhere solution for mobile, remote and home working – and PCS 50/60 for OS X is no exception. For IP Extension Anywhere it can be used as an IP Softphone across a VPN service with QoS, whilst Analogue Extension Anywhere allows it to be connected to maximiser across a VPN service (no QoS required) and used in conjunction with an existing analogue home phone. Finally Mobile/GSM Extension Anywhere makes use of the Apple Macs in-built wireless LAN which, when used with Wireless VPN services (no QoS required), such as Optus Wireless or Telstra Big Pond Wireless, allows a standard Mobile/GSM phone to be used as an integrated maximiser extension.

Unified
Communications
This is the latest buzz word and as it describes a concept and is not easily defined. However the best that I have heard is from Gartner describing UC as the convergence of communications and applications.
Bern Elliott is research vice president at Gartner and published this in Network World (Jan 10/08)..."UC is designed to eliminate the barriers that have traditionally separated voice calls, email, instant messaging and conferencing in all forms. Once these communication media are carried over a common IP network, it is possible to manage them from a single point and use them with common devices, enabling companies to transform key business processes with improved communication flows.
In addition to integrating communication channels - both within the enterprise and with key constituents - UC offers a way to integrate communication functions directly into business applications. Gartner calls this capability communications-enabled business processes (CEBP). By 2012, 80 percent of leading organisations will have adopted some form of CEBPs for competitive improvement.
The largest single value in UC lies in its ability to reduce human latency within corporate processes and improve a business' ability to respond and be agile. Integrating communication functions directly into systems and applications individuals use is particularly effective at reducing human latency."
Central to this convergence is the IP-PBX and its interaction with enterprise wide solutions. IF YOUR PBX CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR APPLE NETWORK THEN UC WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO DEPLOY. With Gartner saying 80% of Companies will be benefiting from UC within 2 years, this is important factor for your Company's future success. See our recent paper in Unified Communications

Unified
Messaging
|
SpliceCom’s Unified Messaging allows maximiser voicemail messages to be stored on any email server supporting the Internet Messaging Application Protocol (IMAP). This includes Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise and Apple Mail, in addition to Microsoft Exchange. Synchronisation is provided between voicemail and email, so if a voicemail is deleted the appropriate email will be deleted and vice versa.
Unified Messaging utilises SpliceCom’s Enhanced Speech Processing (ESP) technology allowing your emails to be “read” back to you from any phone, wherever you are. Once you’ve listened to your email, you can speak your response, which will then be emailed to the original sender as a .wav attachment. Emails can also be deleted in same manner.
| Email, SMS, Caller Display and even paged alerts can all be used to notify employees of new voicemail messages. w top |
